FAQ

FAQ - EPROM

My EPROM or ROM doesn't get recognised any more. What has happened?

I've acquired a 128K EPROM. I've heard that they need to be erased with the EPROM eraser, as the Z88 actually doesn't erase any files, it just marks them as hidden.

Is there any other way to erase an EPROM ?

I can't erase the data on my EPROM pack properly.

I'm looking for a new bulb for an original Z88 Eprom eraser. Can you supply such a bulb?

What can I do with this EPROM needed for Mac? I don't need it anymore.

When I picked up my Z88, the EPROM card
(32k) was in the second slot. It's only since I
got my transfer cable (today) that I've read the
manual, which says the EPROM should be in the
third slot; which I have done.

When I pulled the card out and put it into the
third slot, I got this long, persistent, electronic 'tone'. I thought it was an error note so pulled it back out and put it back in slot two.
I waited a few minutes, tried it again and there was no tone. So I have left it there
.

How do I transfer files from the Z88 to my PC

Can I use a PC AT 9/25 way Serial cable to link the Z88 to the PC?

I want to transfer all kinds of files, not just text files from the Z88 to my computer. What should I use?

How can I convert the Z88's Pipedream file to MS Word (or visa-versa).

After transfering files, they look like this.

Z88 BBC Link

Cambridge Computer did produce a Z88 - BBC Link.

You can download it from here.

BBC file (not sure how you get the file to your BBC Computer - but that is your problem!)

pdf logoManual

Alternatively there is a solution on John Allen's web site.

It might be easier to get a BBC - PC Link and then use a Z88 to PC program now.

Z88 - PC Links

There are a number of Z88-PC programs that we support. These are:-

Eazylink PC Link II and Ranger Link 2

There are also a number of other programs that are availiable on the internet for download.

None of these will work correctly unless you use a Z88 - PC Lead.

Z88 File Transfer

To ensure that binary files as well as text files are transfered correctly, you should use one of the approved programs. There are also some other programs that support different protocols like XY MODEM, Z-Term and Kermit available.
